Interplay Reading Series

There's nothing quite like being in the audience as a play is performed for the first time - hearing it come to life and getting behind-the-scenes insight from the playwright, the director and the actors.  Providing audiences the opportunity to witness a part of the evolutionary process from initial idea to full theatrical production is what Interplay is all about.

Since its inception in 2006, the Interplay Reading Series has presented provocative new works by emerging American playwrights, giving you a glimpse into the critical stages of early play development.  As of spring 2012, Interplay has staged readings of twenty-four new plays, twenty of which have gone on to full productions at Northlight, in Chicago, and around the country, with two plays continuing to international acclaim at Ireland's famed Galway Arts Festival.

That staggering success rate has established Interplay as a valuable incubator for new work in the American theatre, and combined with the thirty-three world premieres produced by Northlight in our thirty-seven-year history, has helped cement Northlight's national reputation as an important contributor to the American theatrical canon.
