NORTHLIGHT STUDENT SERIES:
Artist Engagement
Artist Engagement offers students a chance to learn directly from the artists involved in a production, to supplement attending a matinee. Participating classes arrive at Northlight at 9:00am to take a workshop from members of the cast before attending the 10:30am Season Access matinee. Students get first-hand insight into the artistic process before watching it unfold during the show. This unique opportunity heightens the matinee experience and gives students a new appreciation for the work behind the production. Cost: $5 per student (in addition to $8 show ticket). Snack is provided.
2011-2012 Offerings:
Snapshots: Musical Theatre
Students learn to find their voice with cast member Jess Godwin and musical director Chris Sargent of the musical team of Snapshots. We help students grow to be confident expressing themselves in song regardless of experience by learning timeless Stephen Schwartz songs. This pre-show workshop takes place at 9:00am on September 29, 2011.
Black Pearl Sings!: Storytelling
This storytelling workshop will allow students to turn their personal narratives into monologues. Based on the theatrical techniques of storytelling utilized in Black Pearl Sings!, each student will develop their voice as a writer and performer using song, dance and/or visuals to create first-person story monologues. This pre-show workshop with Northlight Resident Dramaturg, Kristin Leahey takes place at 9:00am on January 26, 2012.
Ten Chimneys: Acting
Focusing on early 20th century acting techniques, this workshop explores the history of American theatre with actors from the production. Ten Chimneys is set at a time when the "Method", and the classic presentational style of acting clashed. Students will explore both techniques and the changes that provoked this shift in styles. This pre-show workshop takes place at 9:00am on March 22, 2012.
