Inspired by the historic Scopes “Monkey Trial”, this riveting courtroom drama tells the story of a Tennessee educator put on trial for teaching Darwinism in a town where Christianity and Creationism go hand-in-hand with lawpitting two American icons against one another in a historic battle of wills. For twelve days in 1925, the Scopes Trial captured the nation's attention as a media circus swept through tiny Dayton, Tennessee, broadcasting the event live to a world of readers and listeners. Eighty years later (and fifty years after the original Broadway production), Inherit the Wind remains as powerful and as relevant as ever, delving into issues that are still being hotly debated in the ‘intelligent design’ headlines of today.
Northlight’s production, directed by Jessica Thebus, will feature Scott Jaeck as Drummond (based on the lawyer Clarence Darrow), Tony Mockus as Brady (based on the lawyer Williams Jennings Bryan) Levi Holloway as Cates (based on the educator John Scopes), and Joe Dempsey as Hornbeck (based on the newspaperman HL Menken).

BJ’s Take:
“Inherit the Wind seems more timely now than ever. Northlight regular Jessica Thebus’ stunning treatment of this American classic refreshes our view of the founding fathers' decision to separate our religious beliefs from the legal systemand proves that the more things change the more they stay the same.”
