One of England’s best-loved classics comes to Northlight, bringing with it all the mistaken identities, misunderstandings and misbehavior that have made this “laughing comedy” an audience favorite across the globe!
When a pair of eligible young ladies from well-to-do rural families meet two young suitors from London, one of them must take romantic matters into her own handsdisguising herself as a barmaid to win the heart of a man who is too shy to court women of his own class.
Funny, smart and sexy, and filled with witty dialogue, physical farce, and lively original music, She Stoops to Conquer is truly theatrical theatre.
Northlight’s production, directed by William Brown (Lady Windermere’s Fan), re-sets this classic play on the American Frontier, while preserving and honoring the original text. The result is a dazzling blend of classic Old World comedy, Old West charm and early American folkwith music by Andrew Hansen and lyrics by Doug Frew & Patti McKenny. The cast features local favorites Matthew Brumlow, Susan Felder, Kymberly Mellen, Tim Kane, Linda Kimbrough and John Lister. |

BJ’s Take:
She Stoops to Conquer is written by an Irish playwright and is one of England’s most read and most performed plays, but through the eyes and artistic perspective of Northlight regular Bill Brown, it is re-set on the American frontier, skewering the upper class and hilariously sending up our national obsession with wealth and status. |
