THEATRE IN THE CLASSROOM: A WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS
What: Theatre in the Classroom explores methods of integrating theatre into existing curriculum in other disciplines. Theatre can truly be a powerful path to almost all other subjects and the “Things You Are Teaching”. Through our workshop we will open doors to literature, history, social studies and language and make connections between these subjects and theatre. We aim to give teachers a toolbox full of exercises, methods, ideas and plans to bring excitement and interest into established curriculum. Utilizing theatre arts classroom techniques and exercises we will explore the various connections that can be made between theatre and the non-arts based classroom. (Typically, the workshop is an hour and half long, but can be lengthened or shortened to suit your needs.)
Where: YOUR SCHOOL. We will come to you if you can assemble a group of 8 or more teachers and a big, open room.
When: You tell us. We will work out a time to come to your school that is convenient for you and your faculty.
Why: Chicago Public Schools teachers get 2 CPDU credits.
How: Contact Lynn Baber at Northlight Theatre to sign up: lbaber@northlight.org or (847) 679-9501 ext. 3303
Cost: $500 (FREE for CPS teachers)
Our workshop has been successful in enlightening teachers on the connections to be made between theatre arts and any other subject. Teachers in past Theatre in the Classroom workshops have said:
|
"I have been teaching for 17 years at high school level and I have started to think that there are no more new things that can surprise me in my search for new teaching ideas. With your workshop I understood that there still are and one of them is applying theatre into classroom activities."
-Taft High School ESL teacher
"This class was really fun. Workshops after school are usually lectures that get boring, but I was involved in this one. As soon as I started moving, I felt relaxed. The activities were great. Thank you for a great class!
-Dever Elementary School
“This class was great.”
Washington School, District 65
"There should have been more people there! They missed a good session."
-Amundson High School
"At the end of the class I felt GREAT and MOTIVATED."
