Heading into Tech.
We've been doing scene work and run throughs each day since last Friday and its been very helpful. As an actor I personally like to get the lines under my belt and work scenes while we take different passes at the text, trying different approaches and tempos, exploring shifts in tone and exploring the work improvisationally. Our actors seem to be of the same stripe and I love watching them try different attacks with each pass at the work. In the last few days we've begun to start talking about plot and character in-depth based on the work, and then I speak with Craig who sends cuts or additions each morning. We include them in the rehearsal half of the day, and then run the play at the end of the day.
Last Sunday some of the staff and our production team watched the designer run and it was a revelation. There was so much humor and it was also very moving. Thrilling really and I think it got everyone very psyched up.
The actors would like to be able to have some stimulation from the "dog" and so we talk to our production staff to see if there is a chance we can articulate the body of the dog. Though it might not be seen from the theatre it would feed the actors and help the veracity of their performance. We'll see what we can do.
The cast has had enough of the rehearsal room so tomorrow we will go upstairs to the set and walk around abit. Friday we start tech, and as Simon Callow said in his book On Being an Actor, "Off we go to the stage, it is after all where we belong."
More Anon,
