BJ Jones (Northlight Artistic Director) is in his 9th Season as Artistic Director of Northlight Theatre. During his tenure subscriptions rose from 5400 to over 8000 and the theatre doubled its budget size, becoming the fourth largest not-for-profit theatre in Chicago. In the last year BJ has directed at Steppenwolf, INTIMAN Theatre in Seattle, The Asolo Theatre in Sarasota, Fla. and at the Next Theatre here in Chicago. Among the works he’s directed are A Number, The Retreat From Moscow, A Skull in Conemara, The Cripple of Innishman, Pygmalion, Experiment With an Airpump, and 100 Saints You Should Know. He has piloted the world premieres of Rounding Third, Sky Girls, and Cat Feet here at Northlight and this year will direct the world premiere of Craig Wright’s Lady. In addition he will pilot the Utah Shakespearean Festival’s production of Twelfth Night and The Alliance Theatre’s production of Glengarry Glen Ross. As a producer he guided the world premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years, The Gamester, and Stud’s Terkel’s "The Good War." A two-time Jeff Award winner, he’s performed at virtually every major theatre in Chicago, including the Goodman in The Guys and House and Garden, at Steppenwolf in Royal Family and Playboy of the Western World, at Court in Candide and Comedy of Errors as well as here at Northlight, in dozens of productions over its 32 years. On film and TV he appeared in The Fugitive and Body Double as well as Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Early Edition, Cupid and Turks, among others. He lives in Evanston with his wife Candy and three children, Keely, Cameron, and Michaela. |
